Black Women’s Experiences in Attaining Mid-Leadership Positions in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry, Instructions Given to Participants

Welcome to the Study of Black Women's Leadership Experiences in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry. This study aims to gather in-depth insights into the experiences associated with attaining mid-level leadership positions by Black women in the property and casualty insurance industry. We will explore factors such as career progression, systemic barriers, support systems, and the role Black women have in their own advancement.

Please be assured that your identity will be kept confidential. Names will be anonymized and responses will be aggregated with those of other participants. The initial survey should take approximately three minutes to complete. If selected to participate further, Talicia Smart, the principal researcher, will contact you via email to arrange a convenient time for your interview.

Based on your preference of focus group or individual interview, the interview will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes for a focus group interview or 60 to 90 minutes for an individual interview. Each participant will take part in only one interview. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time and for any reason.

This project has been reviewed by the Research Ethics Board for compliance with federal guidelines for research involving human participants. You are invited to take part in an important Bellevue University research study exploring the experiences of Black women in the P&C insurance industry that have attained mid-level leadership positions. This study is led by Talicia Smart from Bellevue University.

Background:

The purpose of this study is to explore the lived experiences in attaining mid-level leadership positions for Black women in the P&C insurance industry. At this stage in the research, the experiences of Black women will be generally defined as the lived experiences of women of African descent who hold or have held mid-level leadership roles in the P&C insurance industry.

Interview Details:

Your participation involves responding to approximately 17 interview questions in an individual or focus group setting related to understand the experiences of Black women you have navigated toward mid-level leadership role.

Confidentiality and Privacy:

This study is being conducted by a Bellevue University student and as such, your responses will remain completely confidential. All respondent names will be replaced with numerical numbers starting with P1 and increasing numerically, with no personally identifiable information, and responses will be aggregated with those of other participants. The research results will be used solely for academic purposes.

Time Commitment and Schedule:

Completing the interview is estimated to take approximately 60-90 minutes of your time. Interviews will be conducted starting the third week of July and go through the second week of August at your convenience during the evening.

Participation and Consent:

Your participation is entirely voluntary, and you have the right to decline or withdraw from the study at any point without consequences.
